Union Mill Elementary School prepares students for success in the 21st century by providing a learning environment where all students receive the support they need to thrive, both academically and socially. We encourage our students to work together, respect diverse perspectives, and provide and receive feedback. 

We Love Our Families!

Union Mill Elementary School knows the power of partnerships between home and school! We’re proud of our strong PTA and we have many opportunities for families to participate in school activities and support our school. These include family barbecues, curriculum nights, and Principal's Coffee meetings. We also have support groups for families looking to connect with each other. 95% of our families report feeling welcomed at our school, regardless of their background or culture!

Purple Star School and Mentoring

As a Purple Star School, Union Mill Elementary School is proud to welcome and support our military-connected students and their families. One of the many ways we provide extra support for all students is through our Bear Buddies Mentor Program, which provides one-on-one mentoring to help students feel engaged and connected at school. 

Student Leadership

At Union Mill Elementary School, we empower our students as leaders through our 6th-grade service learning project, student government, and bus patrol program. Our student ambassadors play a crucial role in welcoming new students and families, and our news show allows students to learn about journalism, communication, and public speaking. The Get2Green environmental stewardship program promotes sustainability and environmental awareness. 

Hands-On Learning

We provide authentic learning experiences such as author visits and career day in order to help our students engage more deeply in their current learning as well as explore their future possibilities. 

Inclusion for All

Our Student Buddy Program promotes inclusivity and empathy as students assist peers in adaptive physical education. We’re proud to participate in the Unified Olympics, an inclusive sports program which promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. We want each and every student to feel connected and proud of their hard work!

Individualized Education

Union Mill Elementary School recognizes the importance of supporting students with diverse learning styles. We offer differentiated instruction and tailoring learning approaches to meet each student’s individual needs. Flexible seating options allow students to choose seating arrangements that best suit their learning styles. 

Exceptional Staff 

We’re grateful to our dedicated and talented staff, which we support through mentorship, coaching, and ongoing professional development opportunities. In recognition of their exceptional contributions, multiple Union Mill Elementary School staff members have been recognized for FCPS Outstanding Awards at the Centreville Pyramid and Region 4 levels!

Our School Spirit is Strong!

Union Mill fosters a strong sense of school spirit through various activities. SCA spirit days celebrate school pride and unity. School-wide events like volleyball games create excitement and a sense of community. Wellness Wednesdays promote health and well-being, contributing to a positive and supportive atmosphere. 

Health for our Whole Community 

Union Mill Elementary School prioritizes the physical and mental well-being of students and families through charity-driven events such as our quarterly family fitness activities and our annual Kids Heart Challenge. For those who enjoy running, we have an active running club for students and families! We also partner with Centreville High School coaches, who offer specialized instruction and skill development in physical education through PE clinics.
